Addis Ababa is the capital city of Ethiopia. The city’s name means “New Flower”. Addis Ababa is located at 2355 meters above sea level and had about 3 million inhabitants in 2011. The city is the seat of the African Union and has a large number of embassies. The International Airport, Addis Ababa Bole International Airport opened in 2003. The Capital was founded in late 1800 by Emperor Menelik II. The site was chosen because of the hot springs, which were believed to be sacred. Addis Ababa is among other things known market for the large market place Merkato, the African Union, the Parliamentary Council, Freedom Square (Meskel Square), Hotel Sheraton Addis Ababa, Palace (the presidential residence), University of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa and Addis Ababa Stadium (opened in 2004) .
