Urban Addis is a one year project designed to create opportunity for young unestablished musicians, who are living in the city of Addis Ababa. The project aims to highlight the cultural opportunities for socio-economic development by capturing the media, policy makers and the public’s interest and involvement.The objective is to spread the idea that music can bring income and provide employment for young people.
Selam cooperates with the Ethiopian Music Association (EMA). The Project comprises of 5 major training workshops that majorly focused on improving the professional skills of beneficiaries with short term guidance and training. Problem identification, studio, contract law and copyright management, ICT and Social Media are the major training workshops that will be provided to 30 young participants in the months to come.
On November 9 and 10 the project included a training workshop on basic ICT. To follow up the basic IT training, the Social Media training is conducted by a coach invited from Sweden, Maria Zerihoun, between 12 and 15 November. The workshop provides 28 young aspiring artists with information and tools on how to use ICT and social media to advance their music careers! On March 1 the students completed a yearlong intensive training series of hands on workshops and seminars under the Urban Addis Project. The project provided trainings on ICT, social media, recording, arranging, mixing and mastering, Context fit music software’s like Cubase, copyright issues etc. The participants include vocalists, songwriters and producers and have during their training produced two full fledged songs and 14 sample songs as part of their practical exercises!
