Culture for Democracy - mapping survey

Pre-study in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Mozambique, Zambia, Senegal, Gambia and Egypt
Culture for Democracy – mapping survey
In December 2014, Selam received funds from SIDA to conduct a pre-study titled Culture for Democracy. The purpose of the pre-study is to map out the current state of the cultural sectors of a number of African countries, with special attention to key problem areas, opportunities, and interests, and how these are connected to different democratic social developments. The mapping is meant to provide an understanding of the current context and pre-conditions for future projects with a focus on enabling environments both for culture sectors and for overall democratic societies. Within the framework of the pre-study, Selam’s project co-ordinator Emma Emitslöf has during the last six months conducted field trips and mapping activities within Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Mozambique, Zambia, Senegal and Gambia.

The findings of the pre-study will result in a comprehensive mapping report that will be presented during a conference in late September 2015.
