Selam Sounds and Stocktown Films release Africa’s first music video created with 360° virtual reality technology

Selam Sounds in collaboration with Stocktown Films are the makers behind Ethiopian groupEthiocolors new music video created with innovative 360° VR technology. The group is currently releasing their debut album, a fusion of folklore and contemporary influences. Swedish musician Andreas Unge is the producer of the album and representing Ethiocolor isSelam Sounds. 

– Our vision is to carry out our musical heritage in a very creative way without losing the sense of our identity, says Melaku Belay, co-founder of Ethiocolor.

Innovative Technology

Stocktown Films are known for producing groundbreaking documentaries and with this innovative technique they prove once again how progressive they are with their visual narrative. Filmed on the roof of the National Theater in central Addis Abeba the dynamic 360° panoramic view was created through seven separate takes with a GoPro camera.

– Ethiocolor is a great live act and therefore we decided to use the new 360° VR technology to capture their performance and give the user a vibrant experience, says Senay Berhe, Stocktown Films.

The app offers the opportunity to experience the music video first hand through the unique 360° technology.
The user will be able to listen to the album, share the content on social media and be re-directed to distribution channels.
