Selam firar 20 år som organisation!
måndag 6 november 2017 / / Tags:It all started back in August of 1997, when we on a beautiful summer eve organized our very first concert in Fasching, Stockholm’s legendary jazz club. The rest is nothing less than a fairy tale. During 20 years now, Selam has worked with the aim to uplift questions regarding the provision of inclusive culture for everyone, diversity and representation within the publically financed culture sector, and culture’s role within international development cooperation. Our core motto has always been to use culture as a means to both create meeting spaces available for everyone, and to highlight crucial societal matters.
The least we can say is that we are pleased and proud of what we have accomplished both within and outside of Sweden. Our efforts has been spread across the world and today we are actively working in countries such as, but in no way exclusive to, Ethiopia, Uganda, Cuba and Vietnam.
To be able to celebrate our 20th anniversary together with family, friends, colleagues and collaborative partners in a fully seated Stockholm Concert Hall is more than what we could ever have wished for. For us, Saturday evening’s event marked an epic concert where we had the honour to present the legendary Dr Mulatu Astatke and Sabina Ddumba together with Tensta Gospel Choir on stage. What a night!
Many, many thanks to every single one of you. Now we are more than ever ready for another 20 years.
