Selam Festival Addis 2012

It’s time for the third edition of Selam Festival in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia! We aim to make it The Music Event of the year with national, regional and international artists from several countries at Ghion Hotel Unity Park on the 8th and 9th of December!

The music ranges from Ethiopia, both folklore and contemporary to urban Scandinavian beats! On site entertainment including DJ shows, bazaar, food and children activities will be staged to create a variety of events for the audience.

It is an amazing artist line up – many of Ethiopia’s most popular artists will be on stage as well as invited guest artists from Sweden, Mozambique, Ivory Coast and Kenya. The public will be able to enjoy the concerts in one of Addis’s most centrally located parks, the huge garden around Ghion Hotel, directly opposite the famous Meskel Square.

A number of artists will perform – including Swedish hip hop star Jason »Timbuktu » Diakité who visited Ethiopia in 2009 along with members from his band Damn!

National artists are among others Ethiopian legends like Mahmoud Ahmed and Alemayehu Eshete, reggae star Jah-Lude along with artists like Yeshi Demelash and the first all feamle rock band Janinites and many more! On top of that Kenyan superstar Eric Wainaina, Stewart Sukuma from Mozambique and no other than Alpha Blondy from Ivory Coast ! A number of the artists will perform backed up by of professional musicians like Mehari Brothers Band and Ethiocolor.

The festival will contain seminars, talks, workshops and practical training opportunities for specially invited participants.

– The festival serves as a tool for networking, training and jobs and helps to start off a public discussion about music and culture in East Africa and globally” Teshome Wondimu, director of Selam says.

Selam Festival is implemented in cooperation with YisaKal! Entertainment with support from Sida. Timbuktu’s participation is part of the project 3xAfrica, implemented with support from SI (The Swedish Institute) and Kulturrådet (Swedish Arts Council) and in coperation with the Swedish Embassys in Mozambique, Zambia and Ethiopia.
